The agency was incorporated in 1977 with the intention to be operated as a Senior Center having as its central focus “Seniors Helping Seniors”.
There are three programs operated by Harvest Years – a Senior Center Program, Shopping Program and a Medical Appointment Program . All programs fulfill the Harvest Years, Mission: "Senior Helping Seniors Achieve fulfillment throught Service, Program, Meals, and Activities “AS A WAY OF LIFE”, since 1977. The Senior Center Program provides a friendly, supportive, family-like environment in which social, recreational, educational and daily meal activities occur on weekdays for individuals who are 55 years of age and older.The Healthcare transport program, we transport homebound senior to and from their medical appointments
The Shopping Program has evolved from the original Brown Bag Program, providing commodity food for home bound seniors. Presently, the Shopping Program, is serving 132 home bound Kent County, DE seniors, it provides assistance to individuals with their grocery shopping and concurrent stops for the client’s bank, pharmacy or post office needs. A $3.00 trip fee was started in October, 2003 to partially defray the costs of the Shopping Program. Prior to that time the program had been operated on a donation only basis.
